“I’ve been feeling like someone has been watching me for a while now. Weeks, actually. In town at the shop, and here at home. The only places it feels like they aren’t watching me are when I’m at the clubhouse or at Dyrk.”
“Has anyone said anything to you? Made any threats?” Primal asks, already in problem-solving mode.
“No, nothing has changed that I’m aware of. No new enemies. I’d know if there were any. It’s probably just my imagination.” There I go, trying to force myself into denial.
“What happened in your house? Was it your imagination?”
I closed my eyes. “No . . . no, that was real. Things were out of place. It looked as if someone had sat on my bed. I didn’t leave it wrinkled.”
“That settles it, then.” Primal straightens and looks over my head as if scanning the surrounding area. Probably trying to find the threat I’m talking about.
“It settles what?”
“You’re coming back to the clubhouse with me, and we’re gonna tell Corbin and Justice what’s going on. You’ll stay with me, and I’m not letting you out of my sight until I know you’re safe.”
“Until you know?” I ask. This didn’t seem like a club rule but more like a personal thing for him.
He looks back down at me. “Yes." He nods in confirmation. "Until I know.”
I nod once, and he reaches out his hand for me.
I know what’s going to happen if I take his hand. We’ll go back to the clubhouse, and it’ll become a big deal. They’ll probably even drag Orpheus and Aziz into this, but the other option was staying here and being terrorized.
Either I go down this path with Primal, which might lead to me losing my abilities, or I become a victim of whoever is trying to scare me.
I’m not looking forward to either option, but taking Primal’s hand is a risk I’m going to have to take.
“What the fuck, Primal? Why the fuck is Sibley coming in here looking like she’s seen a ghost?” Corbin yells in Primal’s face the second we step through the door.
“Corbin—” Primal starts to speak, but he’s cut off.
“You were in here, pissed and drunk. I should have known you were going to do something stupid when you took off. I should have had Tucker follow your ass,” Corbin continues.
“Corbin—” Primal starts again but gets cut off once again.
“No, I don’t want to hear anything you have to say. Justice, take Sibley back home—”
It’s my turn to cut him off.
“Corbin.” His name leaves my lips as tears stream down my face.
The blood drains from Corbin’s face, and he looks from me to Primal and back.
“What’s happening right now?”
Primal steps forward. “You’re right. I went back over there tonight, and I shouldn’t have. It turns out to be a good thing that I did. Someone had been in her house. More than that, they’ve been watching Sibley for weeks now.”
“What the hell does that mean?” Zavier asks.
I take a deep breath and explain everything I told Primal. I watch in real time as the looks on everyone’s faces shift from inquisitive to shocked to pure rage, especially when I reveal that someone had broken into my home.
“Have you noticed someone following you? Someone you’ve seen before? Maybe someone out of place?” Abel asks.
“No, nothing. I have no idea who it could be or what they want.”
“We’re not going to let them get anywhere near you. If they want something from you, they’ll have to come see us.” Primal grabs my hand again.
Just him holding my hand makes me feel so much better. I can’t explain it, but it’s almost like I feel stronger when he’s next to me, touching me.
