“Neither did I.”

“I bet you two will bring in more new clients today than ever before in a single day,” West teases.

“Be careful betting against this guy,” Cash mutters.

West wiggles his eyebrows, and I get the feeling these two have placed many bets with each other.

“I always win,” West says.

Cash shakes his head. “You cheat to win.”

West shrugs. “A win’s a win.”

“Bastard,” Cash mutters.

“I guess we better get going,” I finally say, dreading getting to work but also knowing we’re running out of time.

Cash looks at West. “You coming?”

West nods, and the four of us head out to Cash’s garage, where we find his black Silverado.

We get into the truck, and we head toward town. He was just at the office Tuesday morning, so he knows right where to go. He pulls into the parking lot, and for just a beat, I feel awkward. I’m sitting in front. West is in back with Ashley. I wonder if I should lean over toward him. I wonder if I should say something about last night.

Like…clearly we need to have a conversation, but not with West and Ashley listening in, and not when I have exactly four minutes to get my ass upstairs to get to Everleigh’s meeting on time.

Thankfully, Cash eases the tension for me. He leans over and presses his lips to my cheek. “Can we do dinner tonight and talk through some things?”

I nod. “I should wrap up today around five. I’ll grab a ride home with my sister so I can change, and I can meet you somewhere.”

“I’ll pick you up,” he says. “It’s the least I can do for my wife.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “I thought we agreed it was too soon for that nonsense.”

He laughs. “Have a good day.”

“You, too.” I don’t want to get out of the car. I don’t want to face the wrath of my sister, but I also don’t want to leave Cash.

We had fun. I haven’t laughed like I did last night in…

God, I don’t know how long. Probably since before Ainsley moved to Vegas and ended up married to my brother.

I can’t help myself. I lean over the console, graze my fingertips along his jaw, and press my lips to his. “I had fun last night.” I don’t move very far as I say the words.

“So did I.” He leans forward and presses another kiss to my lips.

“I’ll see you tonight.” I press one more kiss to his lips.

“Bye,” he says, and he presses another kiss to my lips, but this time, he grabs the back of my head and holds me in place a few beats.

I start to laugh, and I reach up and push on his chest a little. “You’re going to make me late.” I glance in the backseat and see that Ashley and West are legit making out—like I can actually see Ashley’s tongue from here with the sloppy kiss they’re having in Cash’s backseat—and my eyes move back to Cash’s. “Oh, shit. I forgot they were back there.”

He glances in his rearview and looks over at me. “Hold on,” he murmurs. He puts the car into drive, hits the gas, and then slams on the brakes. Both West and Ashley fly forward at the movement, and I dissolve into laughter.

“I’ll see you tonight,” I say when he puts the car in park again. “Ash, let’s go!”

She glares at Cash as she gets out of the backseat, and West follows her so he can take my seat up front.

“Bye, Mrs. Maddox,” he says as I get out of the car.
