I walk out of the conference room and back to my office, and then I proceed to type up the notes I took since I was dumb enough to miss the recording of the meeting.
I check my phone and see I have a text waiting from my husband.
Cash: Do you like Italian?
I smile at my phone. He’s planning our dinner, and he sent this text probably shortly after he arrived back home. He’s had to wait over an hour for my reply.
Me: Men? Food? Décor? Stallions? You’re going to have to be more specific.
Cash: Restaurants, lol.
Me: Yes. Give me all the carbs and bread.
Although, honestly, as I think about it, if this is dinner with my husband, and if we agree to stay married, and if we wind up back at his house…
Maybe I don’t want a tummy full of pasta and bread as I get into bed with my husband.
Cash: Okay, I’ll make reservations. 7:00?
Me: That works for me.
I debate asking whether I should bring a duffel bag. Am I spending the night? Or is this one of those scenarios where we can decide that at the restaurant? Why am I tempted to ask him to just take me back to his place for dinner? Somewhere we can be alone to have this conversation. Naked, maybe.
Cash: I can’t stop thinking about what you said this morning.
Me: What did I say?
Cash: That you’ve been waiting all this time.
Me: Oh. Right. Back to the virgin thing.
I see some bubbles appear as if he’s typing, but then they stop. Then they start up again.
Cash: It seemed like you wanted to.
I guess if today’s the day for honesty, there’s no reason to stop now.
Me: I did. I do.
Cash: With me?
Me: You told me not to finish the sentence earlier.
Cash: What sentence?
Me: I told you I’d had opportunities, but nobody held my interest. And then I met you, and I knew…and you interrupted me there and said if I finished the sentence, you were going to give me what I was asking for.
Cash: Right. Well, now that we’re texting and you’re in an office twenty minutes away and I’m not looking at your tits covered by my thin sheet…finish the sentence. You knew what?
Me: I knew I finally met the man I wanted to lose it to.
He’s silent for a full minute.
Cash: Got any plans after dinner?
I giggle, and before I can reply, he sends another one.
Cash: In all seriousness, I think you’re hot as fuck, and I like you a lot. I invited you out last night hoping the night would end in sex. But I’ll be right here, ready when you’re ready.
