“I’m your younger sister. I’m not a baby anymore.” My voice is gentle, but my words are firm and direct.

She studies me, and eventually she nods. “Okay. Take care of yourself. I’m here if you need me.”

“Thanks,” I murmur.

When lunch approaches, Sophia rings my office. “Mr. Maddox is here,” she says.

“You can send him back.”

He appears in my office a minute later, and I can’t help my wide smile at him as he settles into the chair across from me. He smiles, too.

“This is a nice surprise,” I say since it’s not our normal Tuesday meeting time.

“I was close by after a quick practice session. I got on the ice with West. We did some pass drills, and it felt really good to get back out there.”

“You skated?”

He nods. “Yeah, you kind of have to when you’re a hockey player.”

“I’ve never been ice skating,” I admit.

His jaw drops. “You’ve never been skating?”

I shake my head.

“Didn’t you grow up in Chicago?”

“I did, but I was into volleyball and dance.”

“Have you ever roller skated?” he asks.

“Yes. We had a rink not too far.”

“How were you on those skates?”

I lift a shoulder. “Not great, but at least I didn’t need one of those walker things like Ainsley did.”

He chuckles. “I’m going to teach you how to skate.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “What if I don’t want to learn?”

“You married a pro hockey player, babe. You’re going to learn how to skate whether you want to or not. And I’m going to teach you all about hockey.”

I can’t help a secret smile. It’ll be fun seeing him in his element, anyway. “I can’t wait to learn.”

“I actually had a few things to discuss with you. Is now a good time?” he asks.

I check my calendar. “I don’t have a meeting until three.”

He pulls out his phone, and he taps around. “This is maybe a little awkward, but I had my lawyer draw up a postnuptial agreement to protect both our assets. I realize you come from a background with money, and I just wanted to ensure we’re both protected. Feel free to have someone look it over before you sign it. I just emailed it to you here since this is the email address I had for you.”

I nod. “Good idea.”

His eyes hold mine for a beat. “And just to clarify, this doesn’t mean we’re destined for divorce. But we hardly know each other, and we agreed to a year, so I thought—”

I can’t help a little chuckle as I hold up a hand. “Stop, Cash. It’s fine. I agree it’s a good idea. Insurance for us both, and you had mentioned talking to your lawyer. Thanks for taking care of it.”

He nods.
