After we dropped off her sister’s car, Justice hopped in my ride and waited for me to drive. I thought I’d have the chance to meet her sister, but this girl threw the car keys onto the balcony and told me to honk twice, then drive.

I stared at her for a good five seconds, because I knew she was gon’’ wait for her sister to come out. She stared right back and snapped her neck at me.

“What?” she asked.

“That’s how you return somebody’s car?”

“She got the keys, didn’t she?” she said sarcastically.

“But does she know she got the keys?” I asked in a neutral tone. I was not trying to get her riled up. At least not yet.

“She will when she goes outside.”

I shook my head and pulled off. Justice was unreadable and was a fucking headache a-fine-ass headache but a headache nonetheless.

For the first few minutes, she sat comfortably in my passenger seat, looking out the window while music filled the truck. Every now and then, I glanced over at her.

“So, why Code Red?” She asked, breaking our comfortable silence.

“My sister owns it.”

Fuck.

I didn’t mean to say that. I wasn’t sure if Chase had mentioned Chyanne or me. I continued, “Plus, I don’t like places where I’m not guaranteed my privacy.”

“Mmm. Yeah, says the person who just casually starts speaking to someone in a shower through a speaker.” She said sarcastically.

“It’s not like I could see you, so it’s not the same.” I shrugged, but I felt her burning a hole in the side of my face from her stare down.

“Anyway. You never mentioned a sister when… you know.”

Thinking quick on my feet because, of course, he didn’t fuck with her or me for real.

“Yeah, it’s one thing for me to tell you everything about me, but for my family’s safety, I don’t mention my sister at all, especially not behind those walls.”

“Okay, that makes sense. Only if you didn’t always feel the need to bring up your little brother. So let me ask you, because I’d hate to end up back in jail for beating a bitch ass, but is this your real sister or is this some kissing cousins type shit?”

Not this nigga, Chase, boo-loving and mentioning his little brother. That nigga was older by thirteen funky ass minutes and swore he was really big dog. Nigga was a puppy. I wanted to know what his cornball ass was saying about me. Not that I truly cared, but I wondered how she felt about me, based on what he told her.

I didn’t want her to think the worst of me. I was already fighting an unfair battle since this lie was definitely going to cause us issues.

“So let me ask you something,” Justice continued. “Because I’d hate to end up back in jail for beating a bitch ass.”

I slowly looked over at her, and I could tell that she was dead serious.

“But is this your real sister, or is this some kissing-cousins type shit?” A laugh escaped me before I could stop it. Shorty was definitely unpredictable. I ain’t expect her to say no shit like that.

“Justice,” I called her name, trying to control my laughter.

“What? What’s so fucking funny?” She was dead ass serious.

“Watch your mouth, Trouble. You not gon’ keep cursing at me, but kissing cousins, seriously?”

“What? Sorry if I think it’s weird that after knowing you for years, I’m just learning that you have a sister. I don't know what type of shit… I mean stuff you into now that we outside together.” She said.

I smirked at her changing her language when addressing me. I ain’t no disrespectful nigga unless that shit was warranted.

“That’s fair. Chyanne is my little sister, blood sister. She’s two years older than you.”
