“You just need to know this. I’ll always be your… Your guardian. That’s my only identity. That’s all I want. You must trust me, I beg you… just trust me.”

My hands tentatively reached for her arm again, but Mina pulled away. She leaned her body against the iron door, then lifted her chin up. When our eyes met, her face was expressionless.

Which was ridiculous.

My Mina would never look like that. She was always a colorful person, overflowing with different emotions. This version of her was so… cold. So distant, so unusual.

“Trust? You still want me to trust you?”

She regarded me in silence. I had now realized that asking for this was dishonorable.

“I was right.” She scoffed. “You were really just a rude liar.”

“No, Mina. Mina, listen to me…”

When the black iron door slammed shut on me, a deadly silence filled the street. Even the flashes a few meters away stopped. I blinked slowly, but no, this wasn’t real, right? Couldn’t be.

“Mina, open the door, my dear, please…”

I tried again, but nothing happened. My voice rose uncontrollably, almost turning into a scream. “Mina, Mina! You have to listen to me! Mina!”

I pounded on the door, clenched my trembling hands into fists. Feeling the rage spreading through my veins, my chest heaved rapidly. I wanted to hit something. I should have broken the stupid metal door so Mina would hear me. I wanted to run and take her in my arms, make her listen, even if by force.

She belonged to me, then why was she entering the home without me?

I couldn’t stay calm or think logically. I couldn’t stop feeling like everything was over. If the spell was broken, how would Mina still be with me? Why would she?

I was only valuable because I was a mindless servant. But now… why would she want me?

Being left alone in the middle of the street at that moment threw me off balance. I couldn’t maintain my usual cold professional demeanor. I passed the reporters, my veins were throbbing as I walked toward Sebastian.

“What happened? You guys talked?” Hearing his stupid voice, my fury grew. Before I knew, my skin opened up like a gift package, my metal arm flew up. Sebastian glanced at the reporters in panic.

“What the hell Ray, hide that.”

But I didn’t care. The arm reached out and grabbed the man by the throat. I slammed him hard onto the stone floor. His head hit the ground, his forehead covered in blood in seconds.

“It’s all your fault…” The metal hand tightened around his throat, and the man’s face turned purple. “Everything was perfect. Damn, I was perfect! Give me a reason not to kill you now.”

“Think… I’ll think…”

My cables around his throat tightened more. Then car horn reached my ears. I snapped back to reality. We were on the street, the press crew was still here. If they had Mina’s footage, I needed Sebastian’s power, otherwise I couldn’t make them expunge it. The damned bloke wasn’t some insignificant person. Killing him would have been costly. I could go to jail.

If I went to there, I wouldn’t see Mina again.

I tried to suppress my anger, a long breath escaping me. The metal fingers moved away from the man’s throat.

“Think, then.”

When I let go, Sebastian began coughing violently.

“Stop this, you little shit. People will be watching you starting today. Stop acting like a fool. No one can see your weakness.”

“Weakness? You think she’s my weakness?”

“She is, and…”

“No. Quite the opposite. She’s my strength. Give me her, and I’ll surpass every limit I thought I had. Even I cannot predict what I’m capable of.” I took a step toward him. “Are we clear, Father?”
