“I can be sweet sometimes.” He licks his lips, and his eyes fall to my naked breasts.

“I guess that’s true. So, are you going to have some pancakes too?”

“I don’t think so. There’s something else I want for breakfast.” He climbs onto the mattress next to me. “But you need to eat first.”

“What do you want for breakfast?” I ask, laughing as I cut a piece of pancake and dip it in the syrup.

“I just want you.” He runs his finger down my skin. “I want you for breakfast every morning.”

“Well, you’re not going to have me for breakfast every morning.”

“Pity,” he says. “How are the pancakes?”

“Good.”

I cut another piece and hand it to him, and he chews it slowly.

“Mmm. I do make some good pancakes.”

“Yeah, I guess you do.”

My phone starts ringing, and I groan when I see it’s Izzy.

“Shit, I was meant to be at Mama’s already. I should get this.”

“Okay,” he says and watches as I answer.

“Hey, Izzy. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, Lucia and I are at Mama’s Kitchen. We were wondering when you were going to get here.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry. I just woke up. I didn’t even realize the time.”

“Where are you? We thought you were going to be back last night.”

“Yeah, I’ll be back today.”

“Oh, so you’re not in town?”

“Well, I’m not back at the apartment yet.”

“What do you mean? Where are you?”

“Can I call you later?”

“What’s going on, Rosie?”

“Nothing. I’ll be in in a few hours. Oh, by the way, I forgot to tell you. Marcus got me an audition for a new NBC comedy show.”

“No way! You’re totally going to be so rich and famous.”

“You know I don’t want to be rich and famous. I just want to be happy, and fame and money don’t make people happy.”

“Okay, but money makes people happy.”

“I know. I’ll see you soon, okay?”

“Okay. We miss you, girl.”
