“His mother cut him off, took him out of her will. Plans to leave her estate to his half-brother.”

“That’s—”

“Unless.” Felix talks over me. “He settles down and produces a grandchild like the brother has.”

“He comes from money?”

“No. His step-daddy does.”

“When did this all go down? It could be the trigger we’re looking for.”

“I think it is. It happened about a year ago. Around the time he started asking Brooke out.”

“Okay, we have a motive for his behavior. Not sure how he thinks what he’s doing is going to help him though.”

“From what I’ve found, this isn’t the first time he’s harassed a woman. Girlfriend or not.”

“Why didn’t Asha find that?”

“Nothing on record.”

“Dammit. I should have asked you to search when I first found out⁠—”

“I’m not your responsibility.” My head snaps to the side, my gaze colliding with Brooke’s. “Felix, can you send what you found out to Chief Yunker?”

“I can…”

“Don’t do it if you’ll get in trouble.”

“I’ll send it from an anonymous email.”

“Thank you.” Her gaze remains on mine. “I’m tired of feeling scared and hiding.”

“Then maybe we should set a trap.”

Felix’s words have every muscle tightening. “I won’t put Brooke in danger.”

“I’m already in danger and I hate that he made me freak out.”

“Call you back, Felix.” I hang up and turn toward her. “I don’t⁠—”

“I want this over. Now.”

The steely look in her eyes has me resetting. I can’t make this decision for her. I might not like it, but she needs to feel in control and if this gives her that, I’ll have to go along with it.

“Okay. We’ll make a plan.”

What I don’t add is I have no intention of letting her put herself at risk. I don’t know how yet, but I’ll find a way to corner the prick and restrain him until Asha can get here and arrest him.

BROOKE

“Is he still there? At the end of the driveway?”

Granger glances at his phone, swipes the screen and waits for the feed to refresh. “Yeah.”

“He has to be freezing.”

The snow has stopped for now. But more is coming and we’ve only got a couple of hours before then to lure my ex to the house and have Chief Yunker arrest him for breaching my protection order.
