“We can still do it.” She hugs me.
“Yeah. But it will be better being with each other.” I tighten my arms. “If you think you're in trouble, tell me. I will get to you.”
“Promise.” She eases back, smiling softly. “Enjoy your soul bond.”
“I plan to.”
She steps backward, kisses her fingers, and holds her hand in the air. I mimic the gesture. Her body lightens before disappearing. My chest is tight when I’m alone. Guilt swirls in my gut. I should have checked on her more. I could have done something to get her to admit her feelings. Instead of worrying about what Aria can do, we should have thought of what others around her can do to her.
I don’t care that Evander and Clara have been considered family. No one can keep Aria away from me.
Slowly turning, I take in the peaceful place for a few extra minutes. I'll come back here with my sister again.
Leave. Sleep.
I drop, falling through the dream, landing gently on my bed. I barely register the warm body beside me before entering a dreamless sleep.
I stretch and roll to my side. Blinking slowly, I focus on the clock and rub my eyes. That can’t be right. Lurching up, I push the blankets away and lean closer. Nine. In the morning. I don’t remember a day when I slept so late. I look around wildly. Archer is gone.
I crawl to the end of the bed, and the door opens.
“Morning, Wild One,” Archer rumbles, walking toward me.
I’m frozen on all fours. I have the urge to wipe my mouth, knowing I must be drooling. Archer is shirtless. His gym shorts ride low on his hips, his well-defined chest and abs on display. Sweat dots his yummy, tanned, tattooed skin.
He stops in front of me, just out of reach. I tip my head back, not caring how I look. My hair is messy, and I haven’t brushed my teeth yet. I’ve already imagined being on all fours in front of my bond, but not like this.
“I slept,” I say, gulping.
“You did.” He tucks my hair behind my ear. “I was worried, but you seemed peaceful. You were moving around.”
“Yes. I talked to Aria, and didn’t have any dreams.” My gaze strays from his as a bead of sweat drips over his abs. “What—” I shake my head. “Why are you sweaty?”
“I like to run in the morning.”
“On purpose?” I wrinkle my nose.
“Yeah,” he chuckles.
“It shows.” I nod. Shit. “I mean…you seem healthy. In shape.” I roll my lips. “Did you sleep?”
His eyes twinkle. “Some. I didn’t plan to leave your side, but Mateo showed up. He volunteered to stay with you while I went out. He’s making breakfast. Rome asked him to bring me some clothes.” He glances down at my body, and his chest rises. “Do you mind if I use your shower?” he asks, stepping back.
“Of course…sure…the water is hot.” Just kill me now. I lick my lips, drawing his attention.
“Do you need to use it?” He points toward the bathroom.
“I’m good.”
“Alright, Savy.”
I stare at his back as he walks away. More muscles. He moves like he has a purpose. What is wrong with me? I wait until the door closes, then bend, dropping my head to the mattress. I was not prepared for Archer’s sexiness in the morning.
Mateo.
I jerk straight and jump off the bed. There's no way I can stay in my room while Archer is soaping his body. Rubbing his big palms over his muscles.
No. Stop.
