I nod, and they walk away. I sense Rome’s magic rising, and I know we don’t have to worry with him here. We can concentrate on our magic.

“Ready?” Savy asks, facing me.

“Yes.” My spells engage, and I hold out my hands. “I’ll wait for you to guide me.” Savy is close to those involved. The magic might respond better to her influence.

“Alright.” She reaches out, hovering her palms over mine. “We have to allow our magic to merge.”

“I know.” I don’t open myself up to anyone but Rome. It’s a big step for me to trust our connection and the spells I’ve held close.

“We can do this,” she whispers, smiling slightly.

I nod and slowly release my magic.

“Shit,” I rasp as Savy’s spells dance with mine.

They twirl within the space between our hands, and energy flows through my body. I’ve never felt anything so powerful. The world around us disappears, and all I can see is my soul bond. Her hair blows in the breeze, and her eyes glow. Even though Rome and Mara are here, I think about her safety.

Protect.

A bubble of black fog surrounds us, guarding both of us. Rome can break the spell if he needs to, but no one else will get through.

“My man has tricks,” Savy breathes.

I'll use all of them to keep her safe.

Chapter Fifteen

Savy

Ifeel like I'm floating.

Archer is more powerful than he admits. Perhaps he doesn’t fully know himself. His magic is bold and big. It circles us, a constant protection. He’s even more attractive to me because of it. My spells are eager to play with his. It barely took any urging for them to come out. I stare into Archer’s eyes and know this is what was supposed to happen.

I shut out the world and thoughts of anyone except Archer. It will feel even more powerful once we complete the bond. This is just a taste. His protective shield shuts out the light, but bursts of electricity pop within it. The hair on my arms stands. I know the trees surround us, yet I can’t see them anymore.

The wind builds as I think of the man called Griffon.

“Find him,” I whisper, recalling the scent clinging to Travis and Betty. “Give me the answers I need.”

A vision builds through my eyes, and Archer disappears. It’s as if a movie is beginning, and my eyes are the screen. I know my bond can see what I do as he stares at me. A fog floats through, gradually clearing, but I can’t see clearly.

“More,” Archer demands.

His magic surges, and my spells respond to his command.

A man appears, but I can only see the top of his head. My body is hovering close to the ceiling. He’s in a room. There's a bed, covered in a white sheet, but not much else. His hair is blond, and he’s wearing a black suit. I watch as he sits on the mattress, stretching his long legs in front of him, his ankles crossed, staring at something in his hand.

Show me.

My view rotates, and I realize he’s in a hotel room. The curtains are shut, so I can’t tell where it is. An uneaten meal is sitting on a plate on the small table under the window. Silverware is lying on a napkin beside it, and a glass of water is directly above the tines of the fork. The television is black. It's silent, the only thing I can hear is his breathing. He’s not a man who needs noise for the sake of it. A suitcase sits close to the bathroom door. Its contents are folded neatly. Usually, when you travel, the first thing you do is rummage through your clothes and decide what to wear. Griffon doesn’t question his attire, and he doesn’t like clutter.

I focus on him. He begins to tap the tips of his shiny shoes together, humming lightly. I feel like I'm in a dream, and I could reach out and touch him. His scent is strong, a mix of cologne and dark magic. The aura around him is a murky gray. It slides over his shoulders, hugging his body.

The room grows cold. It penetrates my body, and I shiver. I can see my breath, and I’m shocked to see icicles form on the walls. The temperature plummets even more, and I hear a crack. I glance at the cup on the table. The water is frozen, and spiderwebs form through the glass.

I inhale sharply.

Dangerous.
