Xay frowned. “What?”

“Don’t what me. On the phone.”

His face changed just enough for me to know he knew exactly what the fuck I was talking about.

“You kept calling back to back, Heather.”

“Because I needed to talk to you.”

“And I told you I couldn’t talk.”

“Nigga, you ain’t tell me shit. You started barking at me like I was some bitch off the street.”

“Sam was in the car.”

I stared at him.

That was supposed to make it better?

“And?”

“And I couldn’t have you blowing my fucking phone up like that.”

I let out a little laugh and shook my head.

This nigga really had some nerve.

“So because your wife was sitting next to you, you get to talk to me any kind of way?”

“I ain’t say that.”

“That’s exactly what you saying.” I folded my arms over my stomach. “Don’t ever do that shit again, Xay. I don’t give a fuck who sitting next to you. You don’t gotta answer my call, but you not about to answer it and start talking to me like I’m some random bitch bothering you.”

His jaw tightened.

“And especially not while I’m standing here pregnant with your fucking baby.”

“You really wanna do this right now?” he asked.

“I been wanting to do this for three fucking years.”

Before he could answer—

“You good, Hev?”

Both of us looked over.

Destiny.

She stood at the mouth of the hallway holding a little plastic cup, eyes moving between me and Xavier.

Me and Destiny had been cool for years.

We met at Freckles when both of us first started dancing and didn’t know shit about shit. Two new bitches trying to figure out which bartenders were cool, which dancers were messy, which security guards actually did their jobs and how not to let drunk niggas run us fucking crazy.

Somewhere along the way, she became my real friend.

Now she was Collin’s godmother.
