“Yours. That’s why I’m telling you this shit.” She looked toward the hallway Xay had disappeared down. “This nigga got you hiding the father of your baby at your own baby shower, then got the nerve to be back here threatening to slap you?”
“He wasn’t gonna hit me.”
“That ain’t the fucking point.”
I rolled my eyes.
Destiny looked down at my stomach, then back at me.
“And you standing here damn near nine months pregnant defending his stupid ass. Heather, I’m telling you, this shit is gonna end bad.”
“Can I piss first before you give me the fucking TED Talk?”
She sucked her teeth.
“Go pee, bitch.”
“Thank you.”
“And when you come out, I’m still talking.”
“Then I’m staying in there.”
By the time me and Destiny got everything back to my house in East Orange, I couldn’t feel my fucking feet.
I kicked the front door shut behind us and dropped my purse on the little table in the foyer.
My house was probably the one thing in my life I could say I had done right.
Three bedrooms.
Two and a half bathrooms.
And most importantly?
Paid the fuck off.
Well, technically me and one of my old tricks paid it off.
He was married, rich as fuck and liked spending money more than he liked spending time with me, which had worked perfectly for both of us. By the time whatever we had ran its course, my mortgage was gone.
Best relationship I ever had.
I kicked my shoes off.
“Don’t leave them there,” Destiny said behind me.
“Fuck you.”
“You’re gonna trip over them.”
“Then I’ll fall.”
“Pregnant?”
“I’ll fall carefully.”
She laughed.
