I meant she didn’t know the motherfucker was hers.
Three hours later, I was seven centimeters.
Seven.
The nurse had just checked me and left when I fell back against the pillows.
“I can’t do three more.”
“You can,” Sam said.
“No, the fuck I can’t.”
“You literally don’t have a choice.”
“I hate nurses.”
“You love me.”
“Not right now.”
Avery was curled up in the chair by the window scrolling on her phone. Destiny had gone downstairs to grab something to eat because apparently watching me suffer had made the bitch hungry.
I closed my eyes.
Then heard the door open.
I thought it was Destiny.
Until Samantha said—
“Xay?”
My eyes opened.
My heart damn near stopped.
Xavier stood in the doorway.
And looked like somebody had beat the entire fuck out of him.
His lip was busted.
One side of his face was swollen.
He’d changed out of his work clothes and had on gray sweats, a black hoodie and sneakers, but there wasn’t no hiding that face.
Avery sat straight up.
“What the fuck happened to you?”
Sam was already walking toward him.
“Xavier!”
“I’m good.”
“You don’t look fucking good.”
