“I’m straight.”
Her hand went toward his face.
Xay caught her wrist gently.
“Sam, I’m good.”
She stared at him.
Then her expression changed.
“Wait.”
Fuck.
“How the fuck did you know we were here?”
The room got quiet.
Avery looked at Xay.
I looked at Xay.
Xay looked at me.
Only for a second.
Then back at his wife.
“Destiny called me.”
Sam frowned.
“Destiny?”
“Yeah.”
“Why would Destiny call you?”
Good fucking question.
Xay didn’t hesitate.
“She said Heather went into labor and y’all was up here. Said she couldn’t get in touch with nobody else that could come help.”
Sam looked around the room.
“Help with what? Me and Avery are here.”
Xay shrugged.
“I don’t fucking know, Sam. She called me saying Heather water broke, you was here and shit was crazy. I was already in Newark. I came.”
That was believable enough.
Almost.
Except Samantha kept staring at him.
