“It was gambling, aight?”
I stared at him.
Even though I already knew, hearing him say it pissed me off all over again.
“You stupid motherfucker.”
“Here we go.”
“No, here the fuck you go! Again!”
“It got away from me.”
“Twenty thousand dollars don’t just get away from you!”
“I know that.”
“Clearly the fuck you don’t!”
He turned like he was about to walk off again.
I stepped right behind him.
“Don’t you fucking walk away from me when I’m talking to you.”
“What you want me to say, Sam?”
“The truth! For fucking once!”
He turned back around.
“I just gave the nigga seventeen thousand dollars. I owe three. I’ma pay the three. It’s done.”
“No. It’s done when you stop fucking gambling.”
He didn’t say anything.
I pointed at him.
“Because I’m not moving my kids again because some niggas looking for they fucking money. I’m not doing that shit twice.”
“Ain’t nobody coming after you or the kids.”
“You don’t fucking know that! You ain’t think it would happen last time either.”
That shut him up.
I shook my head.
“I said I’m gonna fix it.”
“You better.”
I walked away, then stopped.
“And Xavier?”
“What?”
