Willa stares at Lennon like an owl does a mouse, except less hungrily and more curious.
“This is Lennon.” I take a gulp from the bottle and pass it to Lennon. Who stares at it like it might bite her. “Sonatina’s assistant. But she’s not a bitch.”
She could easily go running to Sonatina and tell her I said that, but I don’t care. I’m happy to tell Sonatina that to her face.
“I can’t.” She thrusts the bottle back at me.
“Of course you can.” Dizzy glances between the two of us. “You just wrap your lips around it and swallow.”
Lennon drops her gaze to her feet. Every inch of visible skin from the part in her hair to her hands has gone scarlet.
“Sip. She means sip.” I hand the bottle back to Lennon.
“I’ve never seen anyone blush like that,” Dizzy whispers to Willa who murmurs her agreement.
Lennon takes a small sip and hands the bottle back. She wipes her lips on the back of her hand.
“Are you joining us tonight?” Willa asks.
“I don’t know. Probably not.” She glances over her shoulder like she’s expecting Sonatina to jump out and stab her in the back. She squares her shoulders. “But if I did... I don’t know what to wear.”
Willa and Dizzy both gape at her. “Have you never had a girls’ night out?”
Lennon shakes her head.
“Do you have a dress?” Dizzy asks.
“Or a nice top and pants,” Willa suggests.
The look on Lennon’s face says it all. Where did Sonatina find this girl? I look her up and down. My clothes won’t fit her because I’ve been undereating for the past two years and I’m only just starting to look like I have flesh on my bones. Dizzy is tiny. And Willa, while tall, has no curves to speak of.
Lennon is all curves. She tries to hide them under baggy clothes that look like they’ve been pre-loved. She has assets she should be wearing proudly. “What size are you?”
“3XL,” she mumbles.
“We’re going to get you something gorgeous.” Dizzy jumps off the bed and grabs her phone. She snaps a picture of Lennon. “I’m going to text our favorite drag queen. He’ll know exactly what to dress you in.”
Nostalgia hits me hard.
“It’s okay.” Lennon starts to back out of the room. “You don’t need to do that. I probably won’t come.”
Moving to the desk, I write my number down, tear it off, and give it to her. “In case you change your mind.”
She leaves and I shut the door.
Dizzy has taken up camping on my bed again. Her pink nails tap away on her phone screen. “Can I kill Sonatina yet?”
“I wish... but no.” I hand the champagne to Willa. “Which one of you is going to tell me about Devil’s?”
“West owns them,” Dizzy says, not looking up.
“Them?” I’m more confused than ever.
“Sex clubs,” Willa says.
Oh, that’s intriguing. Scarlet Club wasn’t a sex club. Although things did go on in those private rooms that were not just over the clothes. “And your... favorite... Micah... he goes to sex clubs?”
Dizzy laughs while Willa just looks amused.
